Black Mold Assessments and Remediation
"Black Mold" is a term commonly used to describe a slimy, greenish-black substance
that can result in a serious health risk. This infamous mold is also known as Strachybotrys
chartarum or, more often, as Strachybotrys atra.
It has been closely linked to infant deaths
due to respiratory bleeding, and as a contributing factor to illnesses such as asthma and
bronchitis. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), this mold is responsible for over "100
cases of lung disorders."
HKC has completed several mold assessment and remediation projects. Our mold services include
the following:
Initial mold site inspections -- determine an appropriate sampling plan for the site.
Microbial Site Investigation and samples collection -- presence of mold can be determined
using tape lift, Air-O- Cell, bulk sampling, in walls sampling, and swaps sampling.
Based on the results of the samples a technical report
will be prepared with the necessary recommendations.
Work plan preparation -- mold remediation work plans, health and safety plans, and
contingency plans. These plans are site specific and tailored to site conditions and
infested areas.
Mold Remediation -- area isolation, installation of containment chambers, mold removal with
infested media, biocide treatment, treatment of ventilation systems, and disposal of infested
material.
Third party verification -- re-sampling of the areas to verify remediation completion.
Site restoration -- restoring the site to its original condition.
